The Nutrient

Editorial Guidelines

How The Nutrient develops, reviews, rates, and updates its recipes and food content.

Last updated: September 28, 2026

The Nutrient is committed to publishing practical, understandable recipes and food information with honesty about how the content is created. Our goal is to help readers discover approachable meals made with real ingredients while making it clear what comes from personal experience, nutritional calculations, and general research.

Our Approach

The Nutrient was created by Eleonora Ginnis from her personal experience of changing the way she eats to support her health and well-being.

Recipes reflect a practical, plant-forward approach to cooking. They prioritize recognizable ingredients, useful substitutions, approachable instructions, and meals that people can realistically prepare at home.

Personal experience may shape the content, but it is not presented as a universal medical recommendation.

Recipe Development and Review

Some recipes come directly from Eleonora’s home cooking and personal experience. Others are developed through culinary research, familiar cooking methods, seasonal ingredients, and careful review of ingredient combinations.

Before publication, recipes are reviewed for:

  • Ingredient compatibility
  • Reasonable measurements and serving sizes
  • Clear preparation steps
  • Cooking temperatures and estimated times
  • Dietary labels and common allergens
  • Practical substitutions
  • Consistency between the ingredient list and instructions

When a recipe has been personally prepared or photographed, we may include notes from that experience. We do not claim that every recipe has been physically tested unless the page specifically says so.

Digital tools may occasionally assist with drafting or organization, but content is reviewed and edited before publication.

Nutrition Information

Nutrition information is provided as a helpful estimate. Calculations may vary depending on ingredient brands, substitutions, portion sizes, preparation methods, and the calculation source.

Nutrition values should not be treated as medical measurements or guarantees. Readers with specific nutritional needs should verify the information using the exact products and quantities they use.

Healthy Ratings

The Nutrient’s Healthy Rating uses a structured, rule-based system to evaluate characteristics of a recipe. The rating may consider factors such as:

  • Whole and minimally processed ingredients
  • Fruits and vegetables
  • Fiber
  • Added sugar
  • Sodium
  • Saturated fat
  • Plant-based ingredients
  • Highly processed ingredients
  • Butter
  • Cheese and other dairy products
  • Meat and processed meat
  • Overall nutritional balance

The presence and amount of butter, cheese, dairy, meat, or processed meat may lower a recipe’s Healthy Rating. The complete recipe is still considered, including its portions, preparation method, vegetables, fiber, and other nutritional qualities.

Healthy Ratings are designed to help readers compare recipes within The Nutrient. They are not medical diagnoses, treatment recommendations, or replacements for individualized advice from a qualified healthcare professional.

As the rating system develops, its rules may be refined to reflect better data and more specific dietary needs.

Dietary Labels and Allergens

Labels such as vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, dairy-free, diabetes-friendly, or anti-inflammatory are provided for general guidance.

Ingredients and manufacturing practices can change. Readers should always check product labels and confirm that individual ingredients are appropriate for their allergies, medical needs, religious practices, and dietary preferences.

The Nutrient cannot guarantee that a recipe is free from cross-contamination.

Health Information

Food and nutrition content on The Nutrient is intended for general educational purposes. It is not medical advice and should not be used to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent a medical condition.

People managing diabetes, food allergies, pregnancy, digestive conditions, inflammation, medication interactions, or other health concerns should consult an appropriate healthcare professional before making significant dietary changes.

Images

Whenever possible, images are selected or created to represent the recipe accurately. Some images may be illustrative and may not show the exact finished recipe.

Images created digitally will not be presented as documentary evidence that a particular recipe was cooked or tested.

Sources and Attribution

When an article relies on health, nutrition, or food-safety information, The Nutrient aims to use credible sources such as government health agencies, established medical organizations, academic research, and recognized food-safety authorities.

Original ideas, quotations, and significant adaptations from other creators should be credited. We do not intentionally reproduce another creator’s recipe or written work without appropriate attribution.

Corrections and Updates

We want our recipes and articles to be accurate and useful. Content may be updated to correct errors, clarify instructions, improve substitutions, revise nutrition estimates, or reflect changes to our editorial standards.

If you notice an error, unclear instruction, missing allergen warning, or other concern, please contact The Nutrient. Meaningful corrections will be reviewed and made as promptly as reasonably possible.

Independence and Affiliate Disclosure

Editorial decisions are based on usefulness, relevance, and alignment with The Nutrient’s standards.

If The Nutrient uses affiliate links or receives compensation related to a product, that relationship will be disclosed. Compensation does not purchase a favorable Healthy Rating or guarantee a recommendation.

Our Commitment

The Nutrient is a growing recipe resource. We are committed to improving our recipes, rating systems, nutrition information, and transparency as the site develops.

Our guiding principles are simple: be useful, be honest, make corrections when needed, and help readers make informed choices for themselves.
